Staff Raise Thousands For Cancer Charity
Staff from Stoke-on-Trent construction company Seddon danced the night away to raise funds for a leading cancer charity.
The event at Florence Sports and Social Club, Lightwood, raised more than £4,000 for the specialist cancer centre, The Christie.
Mark Wootton, Seddon’s regional manger for the Stoke-on-Trent office, helped entertain the sell-out crowd with his band NV, along with popular duo The Supatones.
Mark said: “The night was a sell out and we received donations, held a raffle and a silent auction on the night, along with online auctions after the event.
“We had a great time and are delighted with the money raised, which goes to support such a good cause.”
Seddon is raising money to help the specialist cancer centre The Christie develop a revolutionary new ‘magic bullet’ treatment, which could replace chemotherapy for some cancer patients.
It has launched a two-year campaign in a bid to raise £250,000 to help Christie experts develop a UK centre of excellence for the Magic Bullet treatment and fund further research.
Magic Bullet treatment - also known as radioimmunotherapy - targets cancer cells without affecting the body’s healthy cells.
Trials of the treatment show it to be both very effective in treating cancer and much more patient-friendly than traditional chemotherapy.
Seddon is donating £75,000 each year to the cause. In addition to this donation, Seddon has pledged to match pound for pound any monies raised by its employees taking part in fund-raising events.
They have guaranteed the minimum amount donated will be £100,000 each year for the next two years – but Seddon staff are being encouraged to take the total to £125,000 each year.
The Christie initiative helped Seddon scoop the Contribution to the Community title at The Sentinel Business Awards earlier this year.
