Multi-million Pound Deal Creates New Jobs For Gloucestershire Construction Company

A Gloucestershire construction and maintenance contractor has landed a three year contract worth around £6.5 million to maintain thousands of homes in the Forest of Dean.

The deal between J & S Seddon and Two Rivers Housing involves external maintenance work on housing stock and includes a possible extension to the contract by a further two years.

J & S Seddon’s building and maintenance company is based in Wotton-under-Edge and currently employs 35 people.

Geoff Major, divisional director, of J & S Seddon, said: “The length of this project makes it the biggest we have ever secured. It is a great boost for the company.

“It will help to provide job security for our workers, which is particularly important at a time when we keep hearing about recession, and we are also hoping to recruit local builders and an apprentice in partnership with a local college.”

Two Rivers Housing is based at Mitcheldean, Gloucestershire, and manages around 3,600 homes throughout Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. It was established in March 2003 when Forest Of Dean District Council transferred its housing stock to the company.

Matthew Hunt, Director of Development & Asset Management for Two Rivers Housing, said: “This new contract will help enable us to deliver our tenant promises for external works to deadline and, in keeping with our tenants’ expectations, we have set some tough standards in order to achieve the quality results our tenants deserve.

J & S Seddon are a welcome addition and we hope that this partnership will also produce some much needed employment and training opportunities within the local area.”

Within Gloucestershire, J & S Seddon has previously traded under the Jotcham and Kendall name.

However, the company has now rebranded under the J & S Seddon title, to enable the business to target larger scale works, by being part of a nationally recognised company.

Geoff Major added: “The change is in name only. We will remain at Wotton-under-Edge, but it has always been our aim since purchasing Jotcham and Kendall in 1999 to bring it under the J & S Seddon name in the future.
