Shirebrook Scheme Takes Shape
Work is well underway on a £660,000 social housing scheme which will help regenerate a North East Derbyshire market town.
Construction company J & S Seddon (Building) Ltd are building nine new homes on Byron Street, Shirebrook, with a unit providing a staff and communal facility for the occupants.
The contract is on target for an October handover to East Midlands Housing Association – one of the region’s leading providers of affordable homes.
Twelve operatives from J & S Seddon (Building’s) East Midlands Office, which is based in Pride Park Derby – as well as another company office in Normanton, near Wakefield, West Yorkshire - are employed on the scheme.
The company’s divisional director for construction, Adam Williams, said: “We won the contract through competitive tendering and work started on the site in March.
“The new homes will be close to all local amenities including a bus route, Post Office and pub and the scheme meets all of the current eco standards for sustainability.”
The project is a partnership scheme involving three local councils - Bolsover District Council, North East Derbyshire District Council and Chesterfield Borough Council - who are working together to meet the need for more supported housing across their districts.
East Midlands Housing’s Regional Development Manager, Ailsa Daykin said “Advance Support will be the managing agents for the scheme, providing specialist support services for tenants, and we are pleased to be working in partnership again with J & S Seddon (Building), with whom we have a long-standing relationship.
“They completed a similar housing scheme for us in the conservation area of nearby Mansfield Woodhouse for which their craftsmanship got an award from the National Federation of Builders. Several years on, I am pleased to say that the homes still look brilliant – as though they have just been finished.”
“East Midlands Housing is committed not just to providing new homes but also to helping build sustainable communities and I am sure this latest development will play a part in the regeneration of this area.”
