Major Construction Training Award

Seddon (Stoke) Limited has been named one of the country's foremost training providers in the construction, painting and flooring sectors, after securing a leading national industry award.

The company secured the Training Achievement category of the Quality in Construction Awards, organised by the industry publication, Construction News, and backed by the DTi and Constructing Excellence.

Representatives from the company received the award. sponsored by CITB - Construction skills, at a glittering ceremony held at the Park Lane Hilton in London. Hundreds of people from the construction industry and associated sectors attended the event.

To win this title, Seddon (Stoke) fought off competition from a total of nine entries - including some of the industry's biggest names.

Judges praised the company for their "ethical trading in the local community".

A spokesman for the Awards said: "The judges were especially impressed by Seddon's all-embracing approach which, while admirably serving its own commercial needs, also benefits the wider community."

Now in their tenth year, The Quality in Construction Awards are widely recognised as the highest accolade in the industry. Competition in each category is intense and the judging criteria rigorous.

Stuart Seddon, Chairman of Seddon (Stoke), which has its headquarters in Duke Street, Fenton and includes J & S Seddon (Painting) Limited, J & S Seddon (Building) Limited and 4m flooring uk Limited, said: "Winning this award is a fantastic achievement, which reflects our commitment to the region and to our people."

Seddon (Stoke), a holder of the Investor in People standard, spent more than £1.3million on training in 2004. For 2005, the figure stands at over £2million.

Reaching the shortlist is the latest success for the company. Seddon (Stoke) has operated a dedicated apprentice scheme, producing an average of some 30 skilled works a year for more than 40 years.
