Seddon Success in Training Award Bid

Seddon (Stoke) has reached the finals of a prestigious national award for its commitment to training.

The company has been shortlisted for the Training Achievement category of the Quality in Construction Awards, organised by the industry publication Construction News and backed by the DTI and Constructing Excellence.

Representatives from Seddon (Stoke) travelled down to The Building Centre in London to put forward their case to win the title, after reaching the top three companies from a total of nine entries - including some of the industry's biggest names.

Staff at Seddon (Stoke) - which includes J & S Seddon (Painting) Ltd, J & S Seddon (Building) Ltd and 4m flooring uk Ltd - now face a nail-biting wait for the results, which will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the London Hilton Hotel on March 15th.

David Helson, Quality in Construction Co-ordinator, said: "To reach the finals of these awards is an incredible achievement and shows that Seddon (Stoke) is one of the country's foremost training providers in the construction industry."

"Now in their tenth year, the Quality in Construction Awards are widely recognised as the highest accolade in the industry. Competition in each category is intense and the judging criteria rigorous."

The Training Achievement Award goes to a company that has demonstrated an exceptional contribution to training and so helped the industry secure the skills it needs to thrive.

Seddon (Stoke), a holder of the Investor in People standard, spent more than £1.3million on training in 2004. For 2005, the figure stands at over £2million.

Reaching the shortlist is the latest success for the company. It has recently joined the panel of approved contractors for the RENEW scheme in North Staffordshire and, in November this year, a new £5million construction centre built at Stoke on Trent College's Burslem Campus was named the John Seddon Building Technology Centre, marking the contribution of the chairman of the Seddon Group to training and education in the region.
